Duxbury Bay Maritime School Wedding | Kathryne & Scott

When I met Kathryne and Scott over a year ago, they were in the process of moving to Nashville. Since then, they made their move and continued to plan their wedding from afar while enjoying their new city together:)! All of their planning came together on a beautiful and warm July day:)! The rain even held off until cocktail hour was over and all guests were inside – almost like it was planned:)

My day started visiting Scott and his guys…

After spending some time with them, I arrived to Kathryne’s family’s house where they were wrapping up their hair and make-up:)

After getting on her dress with the help of her sister (and mom:), Kathryne attempted to read Scott’s card, but quickly stopped when the tears started flowing…she decided to save it for later;)

I normally don’t post a series of pictures vertically like the ones above of Kathryne and her dad, but this moment was just too good not to show in action:)! You can read a bit about it below in Kathryne’s answers too!

After the first look with her dad, Scott was waiting for their first look before we needed to zoom off to the church:)

A very quick stop at Powder Point Bridge for just Kathryne and Scott…

We arrived at a private beach that Kathryne and Scott had picked out for some photos:)

With the heat and wind in full swing, we found a spot right next to the trolley to wrap up our family photos:) It was actually the end of a driveway and the people tried to pull in during the 10 minutes we were there…They were SO sweet about it and even invited us into their back yard to finish the photos!

These two took the boat ride over to DBMS and arrived in style to their cocktail hour!

This year both of my weddings have utilized the boat ride over to Duxbury Bay Maritime School and I am in love – a beautiful way to get photos ON the water and get your venue in the back drop!

After the fabulous group photo at DBMS, the reception was ready to begin and just in the knick of time – the rain started to really come down outside – perfect timing!

A perfect dress for spins:)

The band – Ripcord – had the party going from the first dance:)!

Ripcord (and Kathryne & Scott) kept the dance party going the whole time I was there – it was an AWESOME party:)!

This is the first wedding for Kathryne and her siblings and when her father started dancing, I could tell this wasn’t something they had gotten to do with him many times before! It was such a fantastic thing to get to capture for them. True joy and happiness! (Kathryne confirmed my suspicions in her answers below too:)!!

Kathryne and Scott – Congratulations to you both and to your families too! I wish you both the best! Enjoy your time living in Nashville as newlyweds too:)!!

Bride/Groom Questions

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

Oh man, it’s a triple way tie for me. And all make me teary eyed.

Scott sang to me! Scott surprised me by playing guitar and singing Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” with the band, Ripcord! The song was so special since we’ve been living in Nashville the past year and a half. The crowd LOVED it and it was so romantic and touching he planned it all for me. Scott practices the guitar every night in our apartment. It was so wonderful for everyone to witness how talented and thoughtful he is! No dry eyes.

Ripcord played “Stand by Me” for our last song. This was another surprise! Ananda and Jeremy had the whole party surround us on the dance floor while we danced and they all sang to us! I’ll never forget that feeling of being surrounded by so much love, the endless love I have for Scott, combined with the magic of the day all culminating in that one song. Crying now just thinking of it.

Another memory I’ll have seared in my mind is when my Dad walked in my room to see me all dressed up. We both had crocodile tears brewing, overwhelmed, but I double high fived him instead of allowing us both to start sobbing. 🏻 🏻 I’ll never forget his face as he walked in and will forever get teared up, thinking of it.

What was your favorite detail?

Loved everything about the day! Truly! All the smiles were probably my favorite detail!! Ours, our families, our guests! Just so happy!

It was SO special to be married in my hometown. I grew up in Duxbury and it’s my favorite place in the world. I was a parishioner at Holy Family where we were married and learned to sail at DBMS so it was extra nostalgic for me.  🥰

Omigosh the band, Ripcord, was incredibleeeee! We were dancing at salad!! All throughout the tables too! The dance floor couldn’t contain us. The floor was shaking because the dancing was so nonstop!

I’m happy we had Bruce from J’s Ice Cream truck come to serve sweet treats after the ceremony too! It was a hot day and the frozen treats were a very fun surprise for our guests!

I made the oyster table cards myself too, so I was quite proud of those.

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

At one point on the dance floor, scott and I both said, “we’re so happy we did exactly what we did with this day.” It sure was stressful leading up to the wedding, but it was SO worth it.

Take time off of work before your wedding if you can! Our friends came to Duxbury early to celebrate the 4th of July and it helped us get in the spirit and just focus on the excitement and not worry about a to-do list or being nervous.

As the bride a few days before the wedding, I told my family, bridesmaids and the people around me, “I’m now in follow directions mode! So if I haven’t answered a question yet, I don’t care too much so please just make the decision for me.” 🤪 Putting myself in “follow directions mode” and not putting pressure on myself to answer more questions was soooo helpful in keeping me present and enjoying every single moment of the day. It was a Dream day and I was really able to soak each minute up. Heather was SO helpful in this too!!! She moved us right along without adding any stress and the BIGGEST smile on her face all day. Amazing woman!! 🦸🏻‍♀️

Funniest memory from your wedding day?

My dad on the dance floor! He shocked everyone with his fancy feet and crazy moves!  We’ve never seen him dance before! He was hilarious!! Now we know he can dance, we won’t let him get away with standing in the corner anymore. 🕺🏼

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

Extend the day longer!

And make sure I ate the appetizers and from the raw bar at cocktail hour! I missed out on the yummy apps but cleaned my plate at dinner. Lavishly Dunn did an amazing job! Delicious!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Nantucket! It was perfect! ️

On Sunday after the wedding, my parents hosted a beautiful brunch at their house, then we traveled down to the Cape. Living in Nashville now, we miss all the amazing seafood and the ocean breeze. We surely got our fair share on the island! We stayed at the 76 Main Inn and it was adorable! On the way back to Boston we flew Cape Air and it was so special to fly over my hometown, Duxbury. We even saw DBMS from the sky!
